What changed
According to Hindustan Times, at least 22 express and passenger train services have been cancelled or suspended between 27 October and 5 November 2026 because of Cyclone Arnab. Some trains have had their departure dates changed or their start and end stations moved instead. The report says the railways asked passengers to check updates on the National Train Inquiry System (NTES) or the Indian Railways website before leaving.
The cyclone made landfall along the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coasts, between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam, on the morning of 28 October. It has since weakened, and the report quotes the National Disaster Response Force as saying it was expected to lose further intensity by Wednesday evening.
Which trains are affected
The report names routes and dates rather than a full train list. Check each train's page before you travel, because the report does not give every train number.
| Train or route | Change in the report | Dates in the report |
|---|---|---|
| Visakhapatnam to Kirandul | Cancelled | Most dates 29 October to 4 November |
| Rourkela to Jagdalpur | Cancelled | Most dates 29 October to 4 November |
| Howrah to Jagdalpur Samaleswari Express | Departure date changed | Not stated in the report |
| 18447 Hirakhand Express, Bhubaneswar to Jagdalpur | Terminates at Rayagada | 27 to 30 October (over) |
| 18448 Hirakhand Express, Jagdalpur to Bhubaneswar | Starts from Rayagada, not Jagdalpur | 28 to 31 October (ends today) |

The report spells the Howrah train "Samaleswari Express". Our timetable lists it as 18005 Sambaleswari Express, Howrah to Jagdalpur, which runs daily. Our timetable also lists 18107 Intercity Express from Rourkela to Jagdalpur. The report does not say whether that train is affected, so check its page.
Who is affected
The routes in the report run through Odisha, Chhattisgarh and the Visakhapatnam area. They matter most for travellers heading to Jagdalpur and Kirandul in Bastar, and for anyone changing at Rayagada (RGDA) or Bhubaneswar (BBS) on the Hirakhand route. The Rayagada origin change on 18448 ends on 31 October, so it applies to travellers on the day this post goes live.

Alternatives on the same route
Our timetable shows two direct trains from Visakhapatnam (VSKP) to Kirandul (KRDL): 18515 VSKP KRDL Express, which leaves at 21:10, and 58501 VSKP KRDL Passenger, which leaves at 07:00. The report does not say whether either of these is among the cancelled trains. Check both on your travel date before you plan around them.
What travellers should do
- Check the live status of your train on its page on the day you travel, not only the day before.
- Look up your train on NTES, as the railway advised, and keep the 139 helpline handy for help during the disruption.
- If you are boarding the Jagdalpur Hirakhand on or before 31 October, confirm that it starts from Rayagada.
- If your train is cancelled, read our refund helpline guide before you file a claim.
The cancellation dates in the report run to 5 November. Check your train on the day, because the list can change while the cyclone is still affecting the lines.

Frequently asked questions
How many train services were cancelled because of Cyclone Arnab?
According to Hindustan Times, at least 22 express and passenger train services have been cancelled or suspended between 27 October and 5 November 2026. Some other trains had departure dates or origins changed. The report does not list every train number, so check your train's live status before you travel.
Which trains from Rayagada changed because of the cyclone?
The Hirakhand Express 18447 from Bhubaneswar to Jagdalpur terminated at Rayagada from 27 to 30 October. The Jagdalpur to Bhubaneswar Hirakhand Express 18448 starts from Rayagada instead of Jagdalpur from 28 to 31 October, so the change ends today.
Who should I call if my train is cancelled?
Call the railway helpline 139 for help with a disrupted journey, and check NTES or the Indian Railways website for the latest status. Our guide to the 139 helpline explains what the number can and cannot do.
Do the cancellations end before the cyclone's effects do?
The report gives 5 November as the end of the window, with most Visakhapatnam to Kirandul and Rourkela to Jagdalpur cancellations between 29 October and 4 November. Weather can change the schedule, so the report's dates are a guide rather than a guarantee.
