Bengaluru Metro Pink Line: first stretch set for 13 November

Bengaluru Metro's 7.5 km Pink Line stretch, Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere, is set for a PM inauguration on 13 November. Stations and Yellow Line link.

Indian Railways train and platform

The first stretch of Bengaluru's Pink Line is set to open after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates the 7.5 km elevated section on 13 November 2026, according to Livemint. The stretch runs between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere in south Bengaluru. The date was confirmed by Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya and Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, per the same report, but it does not quote a BMRCL notice, so treat timings as provisional until the operator announces them.

What changed

Livemint reports that the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) cleared the elevated section on 28 October, and that the Prime Minister will inaugurate it on 13 November. The report cites a post on X by the MP, who said the Prime Minister would travel from Tavarekere to IIMB-Bilekahalli before commercial services begin.

If the opening goes ahead as reported, Namma Metro's operational network grows from 96.1 km to 103.6 km. Livemint says that would make Bengaluru's network India's second largest after Delhi's.

Stations on the new stretch

Livemint says the first operational section covers seven stations, but its report names only the two ends of the stretch and a few other stops. The table below sticks to those. Check the operator's full station list when it is published.

Who it affects

The source says the new stretch is expected to help commuters on Bannerghatta Road, where peak-hour traffic is a common problem, and people living or working around Hulimavu, JP Nagar and the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB).

The Jayadeva Hospital interchange is the link toward the Electronics City IT corridor. The Yellow Line runs from RV Road to Bommasandra and already serves Electronic City, so a rider from the Pink Line can change there.

From when

Livemint gives 13 November 2026 as the inauguration date and says the 7.5 km stretch is expected to start passenger services after the event. The same report notes that the Pink Line has faced several construction delays and was expected to open much earlier, so check for any change of date.

The full corridor is a longer project. Livemint says it runs about 21.25 km from Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara, with 18 stations, and that the 13.76 km underground section is still under work. Trial runs on the underground section are planned for November. The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is targeting May 2027 for the whole Pink Line.

What travellers should do

  • Do not change plans around 13 November yet. Wait for BMRCL or an official announcement of the date and the first passenger service.
  • Check the start time and fares on the official channels. The source does not give the first train timing or fares, so do not rely on any figure you see before the operator publishes it.
  • Use the Yellow Line for Electronics City trips now. Check the Namma Metro network page for the lines that run today.
  • Expect crowds on the first days. New sections can be busy in their first days. Allow extra time for your first ride, especially at the Jayadeva Hospital interchange.

Bengaluru metro context

Bengaluru's metro is in the middle of several openings. For a wider view of how the Pink Line fits into the city's other metro plans, read our earlier post on the Bengaluru-Hosur metro link proposal. For what a new elevated opening looks like in practice, the Chennai Metro Poonamallee-Vadapalani stretch opened in October 2026 with 11 elevated stations.
