What this data shows

Between 24 and 30 October 2026, TrainLiveStatus tracked six trains running between New Delhi and Howrah Junction in our delay history. Five of the six were ranked. Across those five, the average daily maximum delay came to 113 minutes, and on average only 6% of their days finished within 15 minutes of schedule.

Delay here is the largest delay reported during each day's run, in minutes. On time means within 15 minutes of schedule. This is our own tracking record, not an official railway statistic, and it shows how late trains ran, not why.

How the window was measured

The window covers seven calendar days, 24 to 30 October. For each train we took the largest delay reported on each day it had a record, then worked out the median, average and worst of those daily values. Not every train has a record on every day, so the number of days differs from train to train, and the table shows how many days each one has.

The ranking

12302 HWH Rajdhani17 h 05 min724 min22 min39 min29%

The sixth train in scope is not in the averages above, so the 113-minute figure covers only the five ranked trains.

The special train stands out

The 04052 Ndls-hwh Special had the heaviest delays in the window. Its average daily maximum was 415 minutes, close to seven hours, and its worst day reached 645 minutes. None of its recorded days came within 15 minutes of schedule. Our tracker shows no cancelled days for it in this window.

The timetable lists this train on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday, but our tracker has a record for it on six of the seven days. A run of more than 29 hours can touch consecutive dates, but we have not checked the reason. Check the train page for the running days before you plan around it.

The two Poorva Expresses and the Duronto

Two Poorva Express services appear in the data under different numbers, and they run on different days. The 12304 Poorva Express is a Superfast that runs on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. It averaged 59 minutes of maximum delay over five days, with a worst day of 84 minutes.

The 12382 Poorva Express runs on Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Over four days it averaged 33 minutes, with a worst day of 41 minutes.

The HWH Duronto Express (12274) runs on Tuesday and Saturday. It averaged 36 minutes over four days, and its worst day was 40 minutes. None of its days were on time.

The Rajdhani was the most punctual

The HWH Rajdhani (12302) has a record on all seven days. Its daily maximum delay averaged 22 minutes, with a median of 24 minutes and a worst day of 39 minutes. It was the only ranked train with on-time days: 29% of its days finished within 15 minutes of schedule. The Rajdhani runs from Monday to Thursday, and on Saturday and Sunday, per our timetable.

What to do before you book: Look at the delay history on each train's page, not only this summary. If a connection at Howrah Junction or New Delhi depends on your arrival time, build in a buffer. Even the most punctual train here averaged 22 minutes late.

  • Use live status on the day of travel. Arrival alerts can be set on each train's page.
  • Check the trip planner for seat availability across all Delhi to Howrah options before you commit to a train.

Earlier weeks

This report covers one week only, and a single week is a snapshot. Delays on this corridor shift from week to week. For comparison, see our earlier write-up of Delhi-Howrah delays for the week of 2-8 October, and our rankings for the most delayed trains from 19 to 25 October. The Duronto punctuality report for 20 to 26 October covers a period that overlaps this one.

Limits of this report

This is our own tracking, built from the trains we monitor. It is not an official railway statistic, and it does not explain causes. Because the number of days with a record differs for each train, compare the averages with the days column in mind. Treat the figures as a guide to what happened this week, not a forecast for your journey.
