Konkan Railway Monsoon Timetable 2026: Dates and Journey Times

Konkan Railway's monsoon timetable runs 15 June to 20 October 2026: speed limits on the line, scheduled Mumbai to Goa times and daylight trains.

Indian Railways train and platform

The Konkan Railway monsoon timetable is in force from 15 June to 20 October 2026, according to the corporation's own notice. For the rest of this season the line runs with speed restrictions in several sections, and trains can be held or suspended when water is on the track. If you are travelling on the coast before 20 October, check your train on the day rather than trusting the timings you saw when you booked.

What the monsoon timetable changes on the line

The notice describes three things. Trains run with sectional speed restrictions across the route, so the speed changes from one stretch to the next. In low visibility during heavy rain, loco pilots are told to keep speed to 40 km/h. If water rises more than 100 mm above rail level at a spot, trains are stopped, and services can be temporarily suspended until the water drops.

The notice does not give journey times and does not say how much longer any train will take. So the times below are the scheduled stop times in our timetable data, not monsoon-period times. Treat them as the baseline and check the live status of your exact train.

Scheduled Mumbai to Goa times on the main trains

These trains run from Mumbai CSMT to Madgaon Junction (Goa). The table shows the scheduled departure from CSMT, the arrival at Madgaon and the running time.

The Janshatabdi and the Vande Bharat leave early and reach Goa in the afternoon. The Mandovi Express leaves later and reaches Madgaon after dark. The Konkan Kanya Express is the overnight option, and it arrives in the morning.

Which trains pass the scenic stretch in daylight

The stretch that most people want to see is roughly Ratnagiri to Sindhudurg. The times below are the scheduled arrivals at Ratnagiri and Kankavli, the two stops that bracket that section.

10103 Mandovi Express14:4517:30
Tip: in mid-October the sun sets around 6 pm on this coast. The Mandovi Express reaches Kankavli at 17:30, around dusk, and Sawantwadi Road at 19:00, after dark, so for the views pick one of the two morning trains. The Konkan Kanya Express passes Ratnagiri at 05:45, before sunrise, and reaches Kankavli at 07:54, so you get only the later part of the route in morning light.

For a longer look at the stops themselves, our Konkan coast itinerary covers which stations are worth breaking the journey for.

A checklist for travelling in the monsoon weeks

  • Check the live running status on the train's page the morning you travel, not only the night before.
  • If views matter, book a morning train. Choose an overnight train only if you can sleep through the coastal stretch.
  • Keep a same-day fallback in mind. If your train is held or suspended, a second train on the same day is the simplest way to continue. Our monsoon travel tips cover the rest.
  • Call 139 for help on the train or at a station. The notice gives the same number for real-time help.
  • Keep your phone charged and a rain cover for your bag. Water on the track is one reason trains are held, so the flood-season advice in our flooding guide applies here.
Note: the monsoon timetable ends on 20 October 2026. For a journey on or after 21 October, do not assume the monsoon timings still apply. Open the train's page and check the timings for your date.

Which train to pick for each kind of trip

The right train depends on what you want from the day. Three choices cover most trips from Mumbai.

  • For the views: the 22229 Vande Bharat, which runs on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, or the 12051 Janshatabdi, which runs daily. Both pass Ratnagiri and Kankavli in daylight and reach Madgaon by the afternoon.
  • For an evening arrival in Goa: the 10103 Mandovi Express. It takes 14 h 45 min, so you spend most of the day on the train, and the last part of the coast, after about 18:00, is in the dark.
  • For a night journey that saves a day: the 20111 Konkan Kanya Express, which leaves CSMT at 23:02 and reaches Madgaon at 11:40 the next morning. You pass Ratnagiri before sunrise, so most of the coastal stretch is still ahead of you when you wake.

If you plan to change trains at Madgaon or break the journey at Ratnagiri, do not rely on a tight same-day connection during the monsoon. A delay of an hour or two on the coast can break the chain, so leave a gap of at least a few hours or stay the night.

When the monsoon timetable ends

Konkan Railway's notice sets 20 October 2026 as the last day of the monsoon timetable. Plans for later dates should be built from the train page for that date, since the timings can differ from the monsoon period. The Goa-bound trains above run daily or on fixed days of the week, so check the days on each train page before you book.

If you are combining the coast with Goa, our guide to Goa and Konkan by train sets out how to split the trip. For helplines during a delay, the 139 helpline guide explains what to ask for.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Konkan monsoon timetable the same as the normal timetable?

No. Konkan Railway runs a monsoon timetable from 15 June to 20 October 2026. Its notice describes sectional speed restrictions, a 40 km/h limit in low visibility, and temporary suspensions when water rises over the rails. The notice gives no new journey times, so check the live status of your train.

Which train is best for the scenery during the monsoon?

The 22229 Vande Bharat and the 12051 Janshatabdi pass Ratnagiri and Kankavli in daylight, at scheduled times of 10:40 and 11:20 respectively at Ratnagiri. The Mandovi Express passes Ratnagiri at 14:45 and Kankavli at 17:30, so it reaches the southern part around dusk and Madgaon at 21:55.

What should I do if my train is held or suspended on the Konkan line?

Check the live status on the train page and call 139 for help. If the delay is long, ask the station staff or the helpline about the options for your ticket. A second train on the same day, if one exists, is often the quickest way to continue.

Which days do the Vande Bharat trains run on this route?

Per our timetable data, the 22229 MAO Vande Bharat runs from Mumbai CSMT on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and the 22230 CSMT Vandebharat runs back from Madgaon on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Check the train page for your date before you book, since running days can change.
