From 27 October to 2 November 2026, our own delay tracking ranked 986 long-distance trains by how late they ran. The most punctual was the Mhrst Smprk K Express (12908), with an average largest delay of 7 minutes, but we observed it on only three days. Across the ranked trains, just 14% were on time, so even the best names here are not a guarantee for your journey.

What we measured and how

This ranking uses only TrainLiveStatus's own delay tracking for seven days, 27 October to 2 November 2026. For each train we record the largest delay reported during that day's run. A run counts as on time when that largest delay is within 15 minutes. Each train's average is taken over the days we observed it, so a train seen on only three days can rank well on a short sample.

This is our own tracking, not an official Indian Railways statistic. The window ends on the publishing day, so the last day may be only partly recorded.

The 15 most punctual trains

Trains are sorted by average largest delay, lowest first. The days observed column matters as much as the rank, because it shows how much weight the average can carry. Several of these trains run only on some days of the week, so a low count is expected for them.

Eight of the 15 were within 15 minutes on every day we observed them, but most of those eight were seen on only three days. The average largest delay in the table runs from 7 to 11 minutes. Those figures are small next to the overall average, which we come back to below.

The two trains in the table seen on all seven days are the SBIB NDLS Rajdhani (12957) and the Saurashtra Mail (22946). Both averaged 11 minutes and were on time on 86% of the days. That is a steadier record than a three-day perfect score, and it is the better guide if you travel often on these routes.

Live running status

Where is your train right now?

Live position, expected arrival at every stop and the delay history of the last few weeks.

Routes and patterns in the list

Only one pair of trains appears twice: the KWP BPL Express (19711) and the BPL KWP Express (19712), the two directions of the Khatipura and Bhopal Junction service. Their averages are 9 and 11 minutes, and both were on time on at least 80% of the days we observed.

Distance does not decide the order on its own. The JU MQ SF Express (22673) covers 2,856 km from Jodhpur Junction to Mannargudi, the longest route in the table, and averaged 9 minutes over three days. The shorter JP PUNE Express (12940), 1,292 km from Jaipur Junction, averaged 10 minutes.

Trains that start or end at Bandra Terminus or Mumbai Central appear several times: the 12908, 22904, 12267 and 22946. That is a route-level pattern in this week's data, not a reason to expect the same result on any single date.

What the ranking does not tell you

An average can hide a bad day. The BSP Rajdhni Express (12442) averaged 10 minutes, but it was on time on two of its three observed days and its worst day was 17 minutes. Check a train's delay history on its page, not only the average.

Across all 986 ranked trains the average largest daily delay was 111 minutes. The 15 trains above are the exception, not the norm. A good rank means a train tends to run close to time in our tracking, not that it always will.

How to use this list

  • Check the live status of your train on the day. Each train page keeps its own running status and delay history.
  • Give more weight to trains observed on more days. A seven-day record is steadier than a three-day sample.
  • For a tight connection, plan a buffer rather than relying on any average. The trip planner shows other trains on your route.
Method reminder: we record the largest delay reported at any point during a day's run. A train that was late at one stop and recovered later that day still counts as late for that day.

Frequently asked questions

How is the punctuality ranking worked out?

Each day we record the largest delay reported during that train's run. A day counts as on time when that largest delay is within 15 minutes. Each train's average is taken over the days we observed it, and trains are sorted by that average, lowest first.

Is this an official Indian Railways ranking?

No. It comes from TrainLiveStatus's own delay tracking over seven days, 27 October to 2 November 2026. Official statistics are published separately by Indian Railways, and this list should not be read as one.

Why do the observed days not match a train's running days?

Days observed counts the days we have a usable record for that train. It can be fewer than, or in some cases different from, the days shown on its timetable. A train seen on only three days has a much smaller sample than one seen on all seven.

Can I rely on this ranking for a tight connection?

Not on its own. A ranking shows how a train has tended to run over one week, and it cannot promise the same result on your date. Check the live status on the day and leave a buffer for any connection that matters.
