What we measured and how
This ranking uses only TrainLiveStatus's own delay tracking for the seven days from 12 to 18 October 2026. For each train we record the largest delay reported during that day's run. A train counts as on time on a day when that largest delay is within 15 minutes.
This is our own tracking, not an official Indian Railways statistic. Of 2,165 trains in scope, 993 were ranked. Across those 993 trains the average largest daily delay was 115 minutes, and 12% of observed runs were on time. The window ends on the publishing day, so that last day may be only partly recorded.
The 15 most punctual long-distance trains
Trains are ranked by their average largest daily delay, lowest first. Eight of the 15 were on time on every day we observed them. Short samples can flatter a train, so the days-observed column matters as much as the rank.

Where is your train right now?
Live position, expected arrival at every stop and the delay history of the last few weeks.
Longer samples are easier to trust
Four trains had six or seven observed days in this window. KWP BPL Express (19711) was observed on all seven and averaged 11 minutes, with 86% of its days on time. Anantapuri Express (20635) and DLI BHUJ Express (19404) were each observed on six days and averaged 11 minutes. Swran J Rajdhani (12958) was observed on six days and averaged 12 minutes, with 83% on time.
Every train in the table had at least one day in this window with a largest delay of 12 minutes or more, and the worst day for each train reached up to 26 minutes. A short connection still needs a buffer.
How to use this before you travel
- Check the running days on the train page. Our observed days do not always match the timetable, so confirm when the train runs before you book.
- Read the median next to the average. When the two are close, the typical day looks like the average. Where the average is much higher, a few very late days are pulling it up.
- Look at the live status on the day. Each train page shows the current running status and recent delay history.
- Compare alternatives. The trip planner shows other trains between the same stations.

Frequently asked questions
How is the punctuality ranking worked out?
For each train we record the largest delay reported during each day's run, then rank trains by the average of those daily figures. A day counts as on time when its largest delay is within 15 minutes. A train with only three observed days can move a lot, so check the days-observed column.
Is this an official Indian Railways ranking?
No. It comes from TrainLiveStatus's own delay tracking, built from running status reports. Railway zones publish their own figures, which can differ from ours.
Why do the observed days not match a train's running days?
Our observed days come from the reports we collected in this window, so they do not always match the timetable. Check the running days on the train page before you travel.
Can I rely on this ranking for a tight connection?
Use it as a guide, not a guarantee. Every train in the table had at least one day with a largest delay of 12 minutes or more in this window, so a connection with little slack still carries risk. Check the live status on the day and allow extra time where you can.
