What we measured and how

This report uses only TrainLiveStatus's own delay tracking for the seven days from 4 to 10 October 2026. For each train we record the largest delay reported during that day's run. A train counts as on time when it is within 15 minutes of its schedule. The window includes the day of writing, so the last day may be only partly recorded.

This is our own tracking, not an official Indian Railways statistic. It is built from running status reports, not from a fixed sample or from railway declarations. Of 6,532 trains in scope, 3,895 were ranked. Across the week the average largest daily delay was 47 minutes, and 39% of train-days were on time.

The 15 most delayed trains

Trains are ranked by their average largest daily delay. None of these 15 was on time on any observed day, and none had a cancelled day in our records. The runs column comes from our timetable data.

Two patterns stand out. The Azad HIND Express appears twice, once from Pune and once from Howrah, and both directions show long average delays. Some trains also show a wide gap between their average and median, such as Tcnr-pryj Special (04110): the median daily delay was 420 minutes, while the average was 516, so a few very late days pull the average up.

Live running status

Where is your train right now?

Live position, expected arrival at every stop and the delay history of the last few weeks.

What the numbers do and do not show

Many of these trains were seen on only three or four days in the week, and a weekly train contributes essentially one run (a long run spans several calendar days), so one bad run moves the average a lot. The average delay is not a forecast for next week. Treat the list as a snapshot of this week's reports.

Recovery was small for most of the list. Azad HIND Express (12130) and Galtadham Pooja (12413) recovered the most time per run on average in our records, about three and a half hours each. Even so, both were running many hours late at their worst on some days.

Note: the figures are our own reports from running status, so they can differ from what NTES or a railway zone shows for the same train on the same day. A train that was late at one station may have made up time later.

How to use this before you travel

  • Check the running days first. Many trains above run on only some days of the week, so a delay on one day says little about the others.
  • Look at the live status on the day. Each train page shows the current running status and the recent delay history for that train.
  • Plan a buffer for connections. If you need to change trains, allow extra time for the connection, or pick a different train on the same route.
  • Compare alternatives. The trip planner shows other trains between the same stations, so you can choose a faster or more punctual option.

For the wider context, see our earlier reports on the most delayed trains for 27 September to 3 October, the most punctual long-distance trains for 3 to 9 October, and trains recorded as cancelled from 2 to 8 October. For why two apps may show different delays for the same train, read why apps show different delay for the same train.

Frequently asked questions

How is the most delayed train ranked?

We record the largest delay reported for each train during each day's run, then rank trains by the average of those daily figures. A train is on time on a day when its largest delay is within 15 minutes.

Is this an official Indian Railways figure?

No. It comes from TrainLiveStatus's own delay tracking, built from running status reports. Railway zones publish their own figures, which can differ.

Why do some trains have few days in the sample?

Many trains run only on certain days of the week, and a seven-day window holds only one or two of their runs. A small sample can move the average a lot, so read the ranking as a snapshot.

How can I check a delayed train before I travel?

Open the train's page on TrainLiveStatus for its running status and recent delay history, and check the trip planner for alternative trains on the same route.
